Hunny Moon Breaks Her Maiden In The $10,700 Prineville Quarter Horse Futurity
PRINEVILLE, OR–JULY 12, 2024–Hunny Moon gets her first career win Friday night in the $10,700 Prineville Quarter Horse Futurity (not black type) at Crooked River Roundup.
Jockey Jose Lopez, who rode Hunny Moon in her first out at Weber Downs, returns for the mount in the 250-yard futurity. The daughter of Moonin The Eagle led the field of seven from gate to wire, finishing first by a head over Rm Cartel Dash and Jaime Lopez. She clocked a 93 speed index in :13.493 seconds, and the victory paid $8.60 to win on 4/1 odds.
Hunny Moon earned $4,280 for tonight's win, boosting her bankroll to $9,430 in four starts. Owner/trainer Ricardo Mariles-Santos bought the Oklahoma-bred filly out of All Biznez by Corona Cartel for $12,000 from breeder Bobby D. Cox in last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Runner-up Rm Cartel Dash dueled for second place right out of the gate to the wire, crossing the finish line 1 1/4-lengths ahead of Ts Jess Attack and rider Blake Nunnally. The son of The Cartel Hawk has yet to win a race; in fact, he has placed second in all four of his lifetime starts.
He has earned $5,515 for his owner/breeder, Damian Rodriguez. Saul Rodriguez trained the Oregon-bred gelding out of Fancy Radiant Dash by Cancino.
Third-place finisher Ts Jess Attack has yet to break her maiden. The $8,500 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate was bred in Iowa by Thomas Scheckel out of the First Down Dash mare First Attack. Trainer Bryan Flores saddled the daughter of Jess Zoomin for owner Tranquilino Flores.
Paint Big Dreams, Lo Pintas Cartel Jr, Lee Five T and Brand Artist complete the order of finish. Red Lady was scratched.
