Hold The Boss Top Qualifier In Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity Trials
EDMONTON, ALB—AUGUST 3, 2024—Stakes-placed Hold On Boss got his second career win today while setting the fastest qualifying time for the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from the two trial races will return to Century Mile on Saturday, August 17, to compete for the winner's share of $60,602(CAN) purse at 330 yards.
With a confident finish under jockey Amador Hernandez, Hold The Boss raced to a one-length win in the opening trial to establish the fastest qualifying time of 17.122 seconds, equaling a 102 speed index into a 10 mph headwind.
Trainer Buckey Stockwell saddled the daughter of third-crop sire Jd Wagon Boss to her second win in five starts for owners Jordan Green and Chanel Trenholm. Third in the John Deere Century Mile Juvenile Challenge in her last start, Hold The Boss has earned $18,355. She was also a finalist in the Sales Stakes Futurity in June.
Stockwell also qualified the fifth-fastest qualifier Rjs Boss, a colt by Jd Wagon Boss for Colton Willis.
O La Dee D cruised to an easy 2 3/4-length win in the second trial, posting the second-fastest clocking of 17.226 seconds, an 89-speed index into a 10 mph headwind.
Owner-trainer Wesley T. Oulton named jockey Martin Ortiz to ride the 2-year-old daughter of leading Canadian sire First Timber.
Bred by Wesley and Susen Oulton, from the El Rey Burner mare Sass N Dass, O La Dee Da has compiled a (7) 1-1-1 record and banked $12,689. She was a finalist in the John Deere Century Mile Juvenile Challenge and Sales Stakes Futurity.
Oulton qualified two other First Timber 2-year-olds, the eighth-fastest O Winsome and tenth-fastest O First Comet for owner Jeffrey R.W. Rath.
