Hes Chickless And Hooked N Gone Face Off In Strong Field On Sunday
LOS ALAMITOS, CA–SEPTEMBER 20, 2024–Led by multiple stakes winner Hes Chickless and 2023 Champion of Champions finalist Hooked N Gone, a tremendous group of top-level sprinters will get together for the featured $13,300 allowance feature on Sunday at Los Alamitos.
The 300-yard dash is a prep for a variety of major races down the line. Jeryl Hartley’s Hes Chickless and Regina Laymon’s Hooked N Gone surely still have their eyes on earning a berth to this year’s Grade 1, $600,000 Champion of Champions, while Reliance Ranches’ Unrelentless is eligible for the trials to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby to be held next month.
Hooked N Gone won the Z. Wayne Griffin Directors Trial last year and was part of the field to the 440-yard classic. This season, the Pyc Paint Your Wagon gelding ran second in the Mr Jet Moore Stakes and third in the Grade 1 Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational. This is his first start since Remington Park.
Hes Chickless, winner of the El Primero Del Ano Derby and A Ransom Handicap, has continued to be a top level performer at the stakes level, finishing in the top four in the Grade 1 Brad McKinzie plus Kaweah Bar and Independence Day Handicap.
Unrelentless, who qualified to a pair of Grade 1 futurities last year, will be looking to make his local debut after racing in the Heritage Place Derby and Rainbow Derby in New Mexico.
The field will also include Brazilian superstar Miss Isao JQM, who will make her U.S. debut after winning all 10 of her starts in South America during her 3-year-old year in 2022. Owned by Pedro Barbizan Santiago Leite, Miss Isao JQM has not raced since then after spending time in the breeding process in Brazil.
Ed Allred’s Space Flight, a two-time winner on California Breeders Champions Night, and the always-consistent Princesa Rock will complete the field.
