Hes A Jet One Gets Third Consecutive Stakes Victory in B.F. Phillips, Jr. Friday at Lone Star Park
GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–SEPTEMBER 27, 2024–Multiple graded stakes winner Hes A Jet One ran down the equally famous Dollar Bill to win the Grade 3 $50,000 B.F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes(RG3) by a head at Lone Star Park on Friday.
Ridden by jockey Ali Rivera, Hes A Jet One hesitated at the start as he broke from the outside post, then made up a lot of ground late to nip Dollar Bill at the wire. The son of champion Ec Jet One completed the 400 yards in 19.866 seconds, a 92-speed index.
Trainer John Stinebaugh saddled the Texas homebred for owner-breeder Pete Scarmardo. Bred from the Swingin Jess mare Shez Dead Serious, Hes A Jet One's last three starts include wins in the TQHA Classic (RG2), Dr. Glenn Blodgett Stakes, and the B.F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes(RG3).
The 4-year-old gelding has compiled a (22) 5-8-3 record, and the $35,380 Phillips winner's purse boosted his bankroll to nearly $240,000.
Facing older stakes company for the first time in his career, graded stakes winner Dollar Bill was up early under jockey Victor Urieta, Jr. before getting caught at the wire. Juan Diaz, Jr. trains the $634,717 winner for owner Genesis Tovar.
Tyler and Naia Graham bred the Kiss My Hocks gelding from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Jakes Painted Wagon. Last season Dollar Bill won the TQHA Sale Futurity, Sam Houston Juvenile and was third in the Texas Classic Futurity(G1).
Ontherocks, under jockey Oscar Andrade, Jr., also showed early speed but ended a neck back in third for owner Sarah Huskey. Arnold Lewis trains the Texas-bred son of champion A Revenant from the Stoli mare Stol A Bunny. Ware Racing & Ranching LLC bred the multiple graded stakes winner of nearly $200,000.
Lethal Fast, Cr Barak, Dm Moonpie, and Drinks After Work completed the field.
Live racing returns tomorrow night, September 28, at Lone Star Park with a 12-race card headed by the $39,644 Cox Ranch Distaff Challenge Stakes. The first post is 6:05 p.m. (CDT).
