Heartlande Dominates Trials To Wild West Futurity
LOS ALAMITOS, CA–OCTOBER 6, 2024–J Lazy Six Racing’s Heartlande won her first race in complete style, winning by open lengths while posting the fastest qualifying time to the $77,800 Wild West Futurity(RG3) here on Sunday night.
Heartlande, who ran third in the John Deere California Juvenile final at the Orange County track, poured it on in her Wild West trial, winning the 350-yard opening heat by 3 ¼ lengths.
Two trials were contested on the night with the 10 fastest qualifiers returning here for the final on Saturday, October 26.
The daughter of Favorite Cartel out of Jess A Sweetie, covered the distance in :17.742, easily the night’s top qualifying time and 45/100ths of a second faster than the next fastest qualifier.
Heartlande led her trial by 1 ½ lengths at the start, extended her advantage to 2 ½ lengths by the midway point and then finished powerfully to win by open lengths. Henry Reynoso Lopez piloted the Heath Taylor trainee, who hit the board in her previous three local starts.
The other trial went to Ralph and Carolyn Fales’ homebred filly Say Somthing, as she outdueled Gary and Jeralyn Messenger’s Go Tell Carter by a neck to win in the second fastest qualifying time of :18.190.
Sired by first-crop sire Tell Cartel, the Arizona-bred Say Somthing was also picking up her first win in five starts. Rodolfo Arvizu piloted the Matt Fales-trainee.
