Hawkeye Futurity Winner Cr Freighttrain Is Top Qualifier For Jim Bader
ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 7, 2024—Cr Freighttrain returned to the win tab on Saturday night while posting the fastest qualifying time for the Jim Bader Futurity at Prairie Meadows.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from three trials contested for accredited Iowa-Bred juveniles, will return to the Iowa racetrack on Saturday, September 28, to vie for the winner's share of a $163,460 purse going a distance of 350 yards.
Under jockey Ramiro Garcia, Cr Freighttrain raced to a one-length win while completing the 350 yards in the top time of 17.565 seconds, a 94-speed index.
Trainer Jason Olmstead saddled the Iowa homebred to his third win in five starts for owner-breeders Richard and Curt Tobin. The bay gelding, out of Lw Evening Lajolla by Streakin La Jolla, won the Hawkeye Futurity on July 7 and has earned $58,719.
Trainer Edward Ross Hardy sent Flying Finn to his second consecutive victory in the opening trial to get the second-fastest clocking of 17.694 seconds, a 90-speed index.
Jockey Angel Ramiez rode the homebred son of leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 to a half-length victory for owner-breeder Christine Hovey. Second in the Hawkeye Futurity two races back, Flying Finn has banked $33,238 in four starts. He is out of the First Down Dash mare Unveil.
