Grade1-Placed Vesper Martini Fastest Qualifier For Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity
TULSA, OK–JULY 5, 2024–Making her first start off a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 $230,475 Speedhorse Graham Paint and Appaloosa Futurity at Remington Park on June 1, Vesper Martini was a neck winner in the opening trial of the Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity trails on Friday to set the fastest qualifying time at Fair Meadows.
The ten fastest qualifiers will return to Fair Meadows on Saturday, July 20, to vie for the winner's share of a $78,529 purse going 350 yards.
Under jockey Roman Cruz, Vesper Martini completed her task in 17.860 seconds, which equaled a 91-speed index, to post the fastest qualifying time from four trial races.
Leading trainer Dee Keener conditions the daughter of world champion Painted Turnpike for owner 918 Bloodstock.
J. Garvin Kelly and J. Lloyd Yother bred the bay filly in Oklahoma from the Red Storm Cat mare Martinis N Bikinis. A winner of three races from six starts, Vesper Martini has earned over $56,000.
Cowboy On The Fly won the last of four trials for the second-fastest qualifying time under jockey Gonzalo Gutierrez. The Oklahoma-bred gelding was a finalist in the Speedhorse P&A Futurity [G1] and Oklahoma P&A Juvenile at Remington Park this year. The son of leading second-year sire Flying Cowboy 123 has earned $19,292 for his owner/breeder Russel Trull. The Kasey Willis trained gelding is out of I Like It Alota by Lota Pyc.
