Goodtimefreddash Tops Horseshoe Indianapolis QHRAI Derby Trials
SHELBYVILLE, IN–JUNE 2, 2024–Goodtimefreddash had just that, the best time among 38 vying for a spot in the estimated $126,000 Horseshoe Indianapolis QHRAI Derby Final set for Thursday, June 20.
Five trials were featured to determine the top 10 advancing to the final during the first all Quarter Horse racing day of 2024 at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
For rider Saul Lopez, it was a one-and-done situation. Lopez came in just to ride Goodtimefreddash and earned his second win in three starts for 2024 aboard the three-year-old son of Painted Dash.
The duo started from post seven in the final trial and dominated the entire 400 yards, scoring the win by one-half length in a time of :20.176. Tres of Blood and Edgar Diaz finished second over HG Favorite Energy and L.D. Martinez. Tres of Blood was the second fastest qualifier of the day heading to the final.
"He's got a lot of heart," said Lopez through translation. "Every time he breaks running. There are no details to him. He always does everything right."
Myra Garcia manages the training duties for Goodtimefreddash, who has four career wins in 9 starts. He is owned by Garcia and Daniel Aguilar.
In other trial action, AJ Pure Gold and Diego Villamil Bocanegra turned in the second fastest trial win in the next to last trial. Starting from post six, AJ Pure Gold became a contender early on and grinded his way to the wire for the win by a neck over Revvs Cowboy and Rolando Pina.
After a stumble at the gate, Cleave and Martin Munoz came roaring back to finish a nose back in third in the sprint timed in :20.282.
AJ Pure Gold gave Villamil Bocanegra his second win on the card for Natasha Perez, former jockey who now trains. Allen Brenner's BFD Farms owns the Apollitical Jess gelding, who was purchased as a yearling from the Heritage Place Yearling Sale for $175,000.
He was bred by Rancho El Cabresto Inc. of California. He remains undefeated this season in three starts for his connections.
All but two of the finalists came from the last two trials for the Derby. The only other trial winner advancing to the final was VGK Dynasty, ridden by Fernando Morin.
The duo held onto the win by a head over Jon 316 and Alberto Ceron. Fancy Pollitics and Jose Ruiz finished third. Time of the trial was :20.435.
Other trial winners on the day included Kid Kwik, ridden by Diego Villamil Bocanegra, and JLA Hide the Shine, ridden by Alberto Ceron.

The 22nd season of live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing extends through Thursday, Nov. 14.
