General Skywalker Sets Fastest Trial Time In $55,000 (CAN) Ontario Bred Derby at Ajax Downs

AJAX, ONT–JUNE 12, 2024–Stakes winnerGeneral Skywalker defeated Storminn Norman by a head on Wednesday while posting the fastest qualifying time for the Ontario Bred Derby at Ajax Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from two trials contested today will return to Ajax Downs on Wednesday, July 3, to vie for the winner's share of a $55,000(CAN) purse at a distance of 300 yards.

General Skywalker broke well under jockey Ramiro Castillo to complete the 300-yard task in the day's fastest trial clocking of 15.649 seconds, equaling an 89-speed index with a 7 mph tailwind.

Trainer Bob Broadstock saddled last year's Ajax Stallion Auction Futurity winner to his third career win in 10 starts for owner-breeder Marie Broadstock. The son of Look At Magics Form, from the Winners Award mare Katies Award, has banked $42,117(US).

Runner-up in the fastest trial Storminn Norman, suffered his first loss in three starts this season but settled for the second-fastest qualifying time of 15.662 seconds. Jockey Brian Bell had the riding call, aboard the Picov Cattle Co. homebred for trainer Joe Tavares.

Storminn Norman is an Ontario-bred son of Caviar And Corona from the Sugarman Perry mare Everythingperrysweet. He has earned $13,918(US) from a (5) 2-1-0 record.

Senator Of Magic broke his maiden in the opening trial to set the fifth fastest qualifying time of 15.895, an 81-speed index into a 7 mph tailwind. Trainer Jason Pascoe named jockey D.I. Benitez to ride the lightly raced son of multiple-stakes sire Maryland Magic.

Senator Of Magic has made four career starts for owner-breeder Amelie Aubut. Out of the Louisiana Senator mare Silky Senator, he has earned $8,980(US).
