Gachala Breaks Maiden With Fastest Time In The Oneida County Fair QH Futurity

MALAD, ID–JULY 26, 2025– Four trials were held Saturday afternoon at the Oneida County Fair, where nineteen 2-year-olds competed for a spot in the $15,000-added Oneida County Fair QH Futurity final. Gachala emerged as the fastest qualifier to the 300-yard finals set to be run on Sunday, August 10.
Ridden by Jose Espinoza, Gachala set the time to beat in 15.736 seconds with a speed index of 87 in the second trial. The Texas-bred filly broke her maiden with a wire-to-wire victory, surging out of the gate and fending off Thought It Deluxe to win by a neck.
Trainer Ricardo Castillo owns Gachala in partnership with Rainee Browning. Bred by Bobby and Catherine Simmons out of Flash Em the Jewels, by First Moonflash, she was a $14,700 purchase at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Runner-up to Gachala, Thought It Deluxe, qualified second-fastest under jockey Eric Ayala. Although still a maiden from four starts, he previously finished second in the Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity at Jerome County Fair.
Jose Pulido trains the son of Eagle Deluxe. Thought It Deluxe is owned and bred by Jorge Murillo of Idaho out of Thought It Through, a daughter of Foose.
The third-fastest qualifier, Cm Heart Of An Eagle, remained undefeated from two starts with a win in the third trial. The colt is by Eagles Fly Higher and was purchased for $17,000 at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Gachala’s stablemate is also owned and trained by the Castillo and Browning team, and Jose Espinoza was in the irons for the victory. Cm Heart Of An Eagle was bred in Oklahoma by Lindsay German McGaha out of Shes In My Heart, a daughter of FDD Dynasty.
