Foxy Cowgirl Closes Well To Win $70,000 Future Of Iowa Stakes
ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 28, 2024—Foxy Cowgirl closed well from the outside to get a three-quarter length victory in the $70,000 Future Of Iowa Stakes Saturday afternoon at Prairie Meadows.
Ridden by jockey Angel Ramirez, Foxy Cowgirl completed the 350-yard task in 17.350 seconds, equaling a 101-speed index with an 8 mph tailwind. It was the fifth career win in nine starts for the 3-year-old daughter of leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123.
Trainer Edward Ross Hardy conditions the Iowa-bred filly for owners Paul Luedemann, Corey Wilmes, and Cole Morehead. The $31,500 stakes win purse boosted the Christine Hovey bred filly's earnings to $147,853. She is out of Foxy Millie, by Valiant Hero.
Foxy Cowgirl won the Jim Bader Futurity last year.
Runner-up Vals Sizzling Lips earned $12,600 for finishing second under jockey Miguel Ramirez. Trainer Alex Wessels conditions the 5-year-old Valiant Hero mare for owner B/B/ Wessels LLC. Jeff Tate bred the $106,959 earner from the Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Lips V.
Go To The Wood, a 3-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Lil Kool Wagon, earned $7,000 after finishing a half-length back in third. Also trained by Wessels, the brown filly races for owners Matt and Wendee Wood. An Iowa homebred, Go To The Wood is out of Fly Around Chueca by Talkalota Bull.
Completing the field were Chloes Rockette, Summerhills Cowgirl, Racing The Rails, Queens Grace, Blessed Be The Name, Windys Sweet Favorit, Rm Flyeasycash, Candy And Corona, and Dash Of Tres.
