Fooses Flyer Breaks Track Record With Sand And Sea Stakes Victory On Saturday
TILLAMOOK, OR–AUGUST 10, 2024–Fooses Flyer makes a late surge at the wire for a record-breaking victory over Jr in the $11,100 Sand And Sea Stakes at Tillamook County Fair on Saturday.
Fooses Flyer set a new track record in 10.956 seconds, defeating Hunny Moon's record, who just broke it yesterday in 11.153, winning the Ocean Wave Futurity. Corona Legacy has held the 220-yard track record since August 11, 2022. Jaime Lopez rode Fooses Flyer to victory, clocking a 121 speed index at the wire.
Going off at 3-1 odds, Fooses Flyer's neck victory paid $12.00 to win. The $4,440 payday boosts his earnings to $56,421. The son of Foose has lit the board 19 of 28 starts with eight wins, including the Autumn Derby. Benito Curiel saddled the seven-year-old mare out of Fly Thru Time by Strawfly Special for owner-breeder Malon Cowgill of Washington.
Runner-up Jr was ridden by Vladimir Jenson and trained by Freddy Ibarra. The three-time winning son of BP Wagon Train has earned $26,359 for owner Juan Jesus Cabrera Rodriguez. Jose Juan Back bred the three-year-old gelding in Washington out of Chicks Wildcat by Returning.
The third-place finisher, piloted by Jake Samuels, was favored to win. Trainer Mark Hanson saddled the four-year-old son of One Famous Eagle for owners RTM Stables LLC, Kevin Dunn and Bryon Good. He has lit the board 12 of 14 starts with five wins and $46,367 in earnings. Weetona Stanley bred One Famous Rock in Texas out of the Oak Tree Special mare First Prize Joy.
Cds Its Only Money, L Bar D Rosie Lee, Fast Movin Freight and Senorita Frogs round out the order of finish.
