Feudalicious Wins In An Upset With A Photo Finish For Top Spot To The Dan Lockie QH Derby

MILES CITY, MT–MAY 4, 2025–Twenty-seven sophomores participated in four trials on Sunday for one of ten spots in the $45,000-estimated Dan Lockie Quarter Horse Derby finals at Miles City to be run on May 17, 2025.
The top two times came from the third trial of the day, with a photo finish between Feudalicious and Dm Nite Hawk. Feudalicious won by a nose in an upset against the post-time favorite, paying $19.20 to win at 10-1 odds.
Jockey Ezekiel Barron piloted Feudalicious to a gate-to-wire victory in 15.428. seconds, clocking a 101 speed index. With David Jimenez in the irons, Dm Nite Hawk was on her tail, dueling for the win but just missed for second with a 101 speed index in 15.433 seconds.
Trainer Robert Johnson saddled Feudalicious, who scored her first victory in the 300-yard trial, for owner Broken Heart Ranch. The daughter of leading sire Flying Cowboy 123 has a record of 1-1-1 from six starts and $5,055 in the bank. She was a finalist in last year’s BHS Futurity.
Butch and Stephanie Webb bred Feudalicious in Colorado out of the Special Leader mare Leadmetoyourladder.
Donna Mushinski bred Dm Nite Hawk in Texas out of the Panther Mountain mare Mountain Affair. The son of Hawkeye has two wins from five starts with $43,167 in the bank. He was a finalist in last year’s Grade 2 Louisiana Downs Futurity.
Brenda Guzman conditions Dm Nite Hawk for owners Donald and Bren Hermosillo, who recently purchased him for $14,000 in this year’s Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale. He was previously sold as a yearling for $8,000 in the 2023 TQHA Yearling Sale.
