Fastest Qualifier Jazzing Dynasty Returns For Easy Win In Elko Quarter Horse Derby

ELKO, NV–SEPTEMBER 2, 2024–Starting off the fastest qualifying time from the August 28th trials, Jazzing Dynasty raced to a 1 1/2 length victory in the $29,000 Elko Quarter Horse Derby at the Elko County Fair Grounds on Monday.

Jazzing Dynasty broke best under jockey Jose Figueroa to complete the 400 yards in 19.767 seconds, equaling a 101-speed index into a 10 mph headwind.

Owner-trainer Wes Kellett saddled the Jr Dynasty Mountain filly to her sixth career win in 14 starts. The $11,600 winner's purse increased the brown filly's earnings to $70,019. Earlier this year, Jazzing Dynasty won the Weber Downs Fillies Derby and was second in the Gary Waite Maiden Stakes.

Ross Herrick bred Jazzing Dynasty in Utah from the Jazzing Hi mare Jazzing Jenna.

Runner-up Cartel Night earned $5,800 for second. Trainer Clay Teeter named jockey Jesus Virgen to ride the daughter of multiple stakes sire Five Bar Cartel for owner Burke Teeter. Dr. Richard Beck bred the multiple stakes-placed filly in California from the Strawfly Special mare Night Lines. Cartel Night has earned $30,971 in 15 career starts.

Slam Diego and Sketchy Politics dead-heated for third, earning $2,610 each.

Win The Day Racing, Inc. owns Slam Diego, a gelding by You Drive I Fly from the Sixes Royal mare Coko. Blake Nunnally was board the Utah homebred who has earned $16,072.

Sketchy Politics races for owners Ricardo Castillo and Rainee Browning. Castillo also conditions the Apollitical Spirit filly out of the thoroughbred mare Shouldabeenjoebob by Lesley's Express. Andy Knight bred the filly in Oklahoma. Jose Espinoza had the riding assignment.

Rubysbestcard, Cr Last Call Corona, Haulin Oatz, and Cold Iron completed the field.
