Fastest Qualifier Im Rip—Rips Through $26,800 NDQHRA Futurity Final on Sunday
FARGO, ND–AUGUST 4, 2024–Two-year-old Im Rip pushed his record to five wins in six starts, four consecutive, when he rolled to a one-length victory in the $26,800 NDQHRA Futurity Final on Sunday at the North Dakota Horse Park.
Im Rip, under jockey Dakota Wood, ran off from the field in the outside post-position as he clocked 17.740 seconds, a 104-speed index, into a 5 mph crosswind.
The son of second-crop sire Rip Tide's won the Rusty Wilson Memorial Futurity at Chippewa Downs in June. His only loss in six starts was a troubled sixth-place effort in the BHS Futurity at Miles City on May 19.
Francisco Estrada trains the North Dakota-bred 2-year-old for owner-breeder Tyrell R. Moody. Im Rip, bred from the Cowboy Cartel mare Cowboywannab, used today's $12,060 winner's purse to increase his earnings to $27,070.
Runner-up Ms Dakota Lights earned $5,360 for second. Trainer Mallory Norton named jockey Jimmy Brooks to the ride the homebred son of multiple stakes sire The Marfa Lights for owner-breeder Leon A. Glasser. Bred from the Mighty Invictus mare Ms Veronica, Ms Dakota Lights has banked $16,869 with two wins in three starts.
Moonshynin Diva finished 2-1/2 lengths back to earn $2,680 for owner-breeder David Wisdom. Trainer Robert Don Johnson named jockey Luis Maldonado to ride the Moonin The Eagle filly from Divas First Moon by First Moonflash. Winless in five starts, she has banked $7,165.
Wrangler 123, Must Be Magic, Her Choice Is Cash, Shesa Okeydokey Jess, and Dcr Jess Rip completed the field.
