Fastest Qualifier Go O Commando Returns To Win Gillespie County Fair Derby Sunday
FREDRICKSBURG, TX—AUGUST 25, 2024—With no troubles, fastest qualifier Go O Commando raced to a half-length victory in the $80,900 Gillespie County Fair Derby Sunday afternoon at the Gillespie County Fairground.
Jockey Victor Urieta, Jr., had Go O Commando in hand as he crossed the wire in 17.509 seconds, a 98-speed index for the 350 yards with a 7 mph crosswind.
Trainer Juan Diaz, Jr., saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Capo de Capi to his fourth career win in 13 starts for owner Brant Barley. Barley & Sharp Farm bred the bay gelding in Missouri from the Favorite Cartel mare Black Veil.
Last season Go O Commando was second in the Heartland Futurity and third in the Leader of the Class Sale Futurity at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Today, the $28,315 winner's purse improves his earnings total to $118,911.
Runner-up Apollitical Ike dueled the winner and put in a good run under jockey Javier Hernandez to earn $12,135 for second. Victor Oviedo trains the Apollitical Blood 3-year-old for owner Rigoberto Aguilar. Mike and Leslie Turner bred the $43,855 earner in Texas from Eye This Candy by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.
Agustin Hernandez's Ljr was a half-length back under jockey Noe Villatoro to earn $8,090 for third. Carlos Camarena trains the Bobby D. Cox bred son of Duponte from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess An Xpression.
Shelby, Mp Just Rip It, Ff Maximo Knight, Hueys Wild Bay Be, Cr Salvage Fire, and Kas Delivers Gl completed the field. Conducting Business was scratched.
