Dulces Fire Z Tops Sweetwater Downs Futurity Qualifiers

Dulces Fire Z turned in the fastest qualifying time from 11 trials for the $100,000-added Sweetwater Downs Futurity on Friday at Sweetwater Downs.
Ridden by Edwin Escobedo, Dulces Fire Z prevailed in a duel with Kash Kowboyy to win by a neck while covering 350 yards in :16.995, earning a 108 speed index. Kash Kowboyy finished second in :17.032 to secure the second-fastest qualifying time.
Owned by Buckway Ranch LLC and trained by Joe Davis, Dulces Fire Z was bred by T & M Dinwiddie Racing and sold for $53,000 at the Heritage Place Yearling Sale. The gelding is by champion Dulce Sin Tacha and out of the winning Hes Relentless mare Fires Relentless.
His second dam is champion Separate Fire ($631,250), with champions Stylish Jess Br ($804,298) and Flash And Roll ($1,710,718) also appearing in the female family. Dulces Fire Z improved his record to 5-2-1-1 with $38,469 in earnings after entering the trials off a fifth-place finish in the Governors Cup Futurity.
Kash Kowboyy secured the second-fastest qualifying time under Nestor Duran for owner/trainer Oscar Diaz. Bred by Francisco Javier Garza, the colt was a $60,000 repurchase at the TQHA Yearling Sale. He is by champion sire Flying Cowboy 123 and out of the stakes-winning Ec Jet One mare Kas Shes Ec, with world champion Merganser ($1,373,704) appearing in the female family. Coming off a fifth-place finish in the Cherokee Nation Stakes, Kash Kowboyy now has a record of 4-1-1-1 with $17,736 in earnings.
Ojd Tempt Me Not secured the third-fastest qualifying time with a dominating 2 1/2-length trial victory under Nestor Duran. The gelding stopped the clock in :17.046, earning a 107 speed index.
Bred and owned by Karla Diaz-Gomez and Oscar Diaz, who also trains, Ojd Tempt Me Not is by Tempting Dash and out of the Favorite Cartel mare Ojd One Favorite Jj. The gelding improved his record to 6-5-1-0 with $161,324 in earnings. He entered the trials following a victory in the Governors Cup Futurity and also won the Idaho Cup Futurity earlier this season.
The $100,000-added Sweetwater Downs Futurity final is scheduled for Sept. 26.

Hill County Cowgirl topped the qualifiers for the $25,000 Sweetwater Downs Futurity Consolation. Ridden by David Alvarez Jr. for owner/breeder Jerry Chapman and trainer Josh Taylor, the filly was a $35,000 repurchase at the TQHA Yearling Sale. She is by Flying Cowboy 123 and out of the Corona Cartel mare Corona Wildwire. Hill County Cowgirl finished her trial in :17.424.
She now has a record of 6-3-0-0 with $19,960 in earnings. The $25,000 consolation final is also scheduled for Sept. 26.
