Double Cruise Gets Third Consecutive Alberta Bred Maturity Victory
EDMONTON, ALB—AUGUST 23, 2024—Seven-year-old multiple stakes winner Double Cruise got his win in the $15,784(US) Alberta Bred Maturity on Friday when he defeated long-shot Miss Fancy Nancy by a neck.
Double Cruise broke sharply under jockey Martin Ortiz to complete the 350 yards in 17.527 seconds, equaling a 109-speed index into a 10 mph headwind.
It was the 13th career win for the Alberta-bred son of Bd Cruiser, owned-bred and trained by Tom Kenway. Starting off a win in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Maturity in his last start, August 23, the 7-year-old earned $8,552(US) to bring his bankroll total to over $143,000.
A three-time winner of the Alberta Bred Maturity in 2022, 2023, and 2024, Double Cruise is out of the Eye Take Time mare Eye Cruise.
Runner-up Miss Fancy Nancy races for owner-breeder Barry and Janice Sather, earning $4,195(US) for the effort. Facing older horses for the first time, the 3-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Big Lew is trained by Misael Moreno and was ridden by jockey Jesus Medina.
The graded stakes-placed filly is out of Singles Cruise by Favorite Cartel and has earned over $51,000.
Jeffrey Rath's Wave Burner, a 5-year-old son of world champion Wave Carver, finished one length back to earn $1,936(US) for third.
Trainer Wesley Oulton named jockey Corrine Andros to ride the gelding from the First Timber mare First Prize Sass. Oulton also bred the multiple stakes winner of over $68,500.
Jamez Bond and Rocky League completed the field.
