Double Cruise Bounces Off Grand Prairie Sprint To Win Alberta Stallion Maturity
EDMONTON, ALB—AUGUST 23, 2024—Double Cruise bounced off a runner-up finish in the August 11 Grand Prairie Sprint to win the $15,784(US) Alberta Stallion Maturity Friday evening at Century Mile Racetrack & Casino.
Under jockey Martin Ortiz, Double Cruise jumped out to a quick lead and then held to win by half while completing the 330 yards in 16.822 seconds, equaling a 102-speed index into a 15 mph headwind.
Owned- trained, and bred by Tom Kenway, Double Cruse has won 12 of 32 career starts and used the $8,319(US) winner's purse to increase his earnings total to $131,459. Double Cruise is out of the Eye Take Time mare Eye Cruise.
Runner-up Timbers Express, a 6-year-old son of leading Canadian sire First Timber, earned $4,081(US) for finishing second. Trainer Brant Laczo named jockey Adrian Gonzalez to ride the 6-year-old for owner-breeder Shirley Laczo. Bred from the Daddys Belly Roll mare Daddys Express Girl, Timbers Express has earned $51,386.
Post-time favorite Junk Drawer weakened under jockey Ricardo Moreno to earn $1,883(US) for third. Laurie Ferguson owns and trains the 4-year-old son of Obsessed With Corona from the Favorite Cartel mare, Concealed Attraction. Ralph Danard bred the stakes winner of nearly $40,000.
Rock League, Northfork Boss, and Inseparable Cowgirl completed the field.
