Docs Blazin Gal Turns Tables To Get Fastest Time In Wyoming Downs Derby Trials
EVANSTON, WY–JULY 27, 2024–Wyoming Bred Derby runner-up bested the Derby winner in the Wyoming Derby trials today to set the fastest qualifying time at Wyoming Downs.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Wyoming Downs on Sunday, August 11, to vie for the winner's share of a $30,000-added purse going 400 yards.
Docs Blazin Gal flew from the gate under jockey Jesus Valenzuela and then caught Jkh Almost A Dynasty in the second trial to get the fastest qualifying time of 19.566 seconds, a 106-speed index.
In their previous start, the $104,300 Wyoming Bred Derby on June 8, Jkh Almost A Dynasty defeated Docs Blazin Gal by a neck after the later was bumped at the start.
Kylie Valenzuela conditions the daughter of multiple stakes sire Docs Best Card for owner-breeder Pedro Mena. Bred from the First Moonflash mare Blazin Mean, Docs Blazin Gal has won five of seven career starts and earned $50,919.
Racing for owner Cassandra Dominguez and trainer Calli Van Tassel Dominguez, Jkh Almost A Dynasty held on to the second fastest clocking of 19.608 seconds, a 105-speed index.
Uriel Dominguez rides the daughter of multiple stakes sire Jr Dynasty Mountain, who was bred by Gordon Knudsen from the Favorite Cartel mare Almost Early. The stakes-winning filly earned $61,850 off a (9) 4-1-1 record.
Trainers Kylie Valenzuela and Josh Taylor qualified three each to the Wyoming Downs Derby final.
