Dashtraxx Impresses In Air Born Leader Overnight Stakes At Horseshoe Indianapolis

SHELBYVILLE, IN–AUGUST 7, 2024–Fresh on the heels of Trainer Tony Cunningham, who had a dead heat win in Overnight Stakes action Tuesday, Aug. 6, trainer Tim Eggleston brought in the top three finishers in the $35,000 Air Born Leader Overnight Stakes today (Aug. 7) with Dashtraxx and jockey Rolando Pina scoring the victory.

Dashtraxx began from post nine and was primed and ready to go when the gates opened. A little contact early on didn’t faze the four-year-old black gelding as he powered his way through the 350-yard dash and caught up with inside challengers.

In the final strides, the horse to his outside, stablemate Winner Spirit, caused him the most concern. Winner Spirit was closing fast, but so was Dashtraxx, who held his advantage under the wire for the win by a neck over Winner Spirit.

Streakindownthebeach and Eduardo Diaz finished third in a five horse photo to make it an Eggleston trifecta. The time of the dash was 17.690 seconds, a 94 speed index.

Dashtraxx scored his first win of the season in the Overnight Stakes, paying $18.40 as an unnoticed entrant in the 10-horse field. The son of Valiant Hero is owned by Steve Mullins and trained by Eggleston, who has campaigned the gelding his entire career.

Rolando Pina is the only rider to have ever been aboard Dashtraxx, which has four wins. Paragon Farms LLC bred Dashtraxx from the One Famous Eagle mare Famous Dash To Me. He has earned $103,813.

Runner-up Winner Spirit earned $7,400 for owner Phillip Harrison. Also from the Eggleston barn, the 4-year-old son of Apollitical Spirit was ridden by jockey Juan Marquez. Walker R "Dick" Harrison bred the gelding from the Mighty Invictus mare Ms Victorita.

Third-place finisher Streakindownthebeach, also from the Eggleston stable, races for owner Buddy Presley. Luis Luna Diaz rode Habits Secret gelding out of Beach Runner by Escondido Beach. He earned $3,700 for the effort.

Hh C J Shake, Cv Struttinforakiss, Hooked On Jordan-DH, Wheres Wilson-DH, Seize Greatness, High Rolling Seize, and El Fulano completed the field.

The Air Born Runner Overnight Stakes is named in honor of former Indiana bred standout Air Born Runner, who amassed nearly a half million in purse earnings and 12 wins. The flashy grey gelding, who won the race named in honor of his father, Born Runner, three straight years, was campaigned by breeder-owner Randy Thompson. Tom Mosley Jr. handled the training duties of the multiple stakes winner.

For the second day in a row, a carryover was established on the Quarter Horse pentafecta, going into Thursday’s $85,560 Horseshoe Indianapolis Classic with a carryover of $15,705.09. The 22nd running of the race will be coupled with the $34,000 Mari Hulman George Overnight Stakes to close out the Thursday, Aug. 8 racing program at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
