CV Struttinforakiss has swagger in Easys Night Beat Overnight Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis
SHELBYVILLE, IN–JULY 5, 2024–The powerhouse week continues for jockey Edgar Diaz and trainer Claudio Barraza as they connected for another stakes win with CV Struttinforakiss in the $36,342 Easys Night Beat Overnight Stakes Friday, July 5 at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
The duo covered the 350-yard dash over a rain-soaked track in a time of :17.695 for the win his first of 2024.
Starting from post two, CV Struttinforakiss was in contention right out of the gate and battled early on with El Fulano and Diego Villamil Bocanegra for the top spot. Midway through the race, CV Struttinforakiss took over from El Fulano and Piloted By An Angel and Francisco Quintero, who were holding their ground along the inside.
CV Struttinforakiss powered to the wire for the win by one-half length over Piloted By An Angel. El Fulano finished third in the field full of previous Indiana stakes winners, showing the depth of the starters.
CV Struttinforakiss was the favorite, paying $4.40 for the win. The sorrel gelding sired by the nation's #1 leading sire of two-year-olds is owned by Campos Family Ventures. It was only his second start this year at the age of four after winning four of seven last year, including the $124,000 Sterlie Bertram Memorial.
In his only other start this season, he was defeated by his stablemate, Mr Michel, also a son of Kiss My Hocks, who won the Bradford Stakes earlier in the week for Barraza and Diaz.
Overall, CV Struttinforakiss now has more than $150,000 in earnings. He is five for 15 lifetime.
In the last week of racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis, Diaz and Barraza have connected for wins in seven of 11 starts. Barraza has saddled four stakes winners already this season and had the fastest trial winner in the Blue River Derby, which is set for the $133,900 final on Saturday, July 20, during Quarter Horse Stakes Day.
Runner-up Piloted By An Angel was saddled by trainer Tony Cunningham. The daughter of Paint My Pilot has lit the board 11 of 15 starts with five career wins and $184,181in the bank.
She won the Jaguar Rocket Stakes, placed second in the QHRAI Derby, Leader of the Class Sale Futurity, and Horseshoe Indianapolis June Overnight Stakes. She was a finalist in the Carter Riley Overnight Stakes and Miss Roxie Little Futurity.
Bred by Dunn Ranch, Piloted By An Angel was repurchased for $14,500 in the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction. Salvador Villalobos owns the four-year-old filly out of La Blue Angel by Walk Thru Fire.
Felix Barraza conditions third-place finisher El Fulano for owner C.T.S. Stables LLC. The five-year-old son of Encore has two career wins with $33,494 In earnings. He was a finalist in the Born Runner Classic Stakes, Hoosier Park Classic Stakes, and Horseshoe Indianapolis Overnight Stakes.
Miguel Hernandez bred El Fulano out of the Tres Seis mare Rc Give Her A Chance.
Nacho Prieto, Hooked On Jordan, Dashtraxx, Hh C J Shake, Winner Spirit and Wheres Wilson round out the order of finish.
