Cosino Rogue Scores Upset Victory In Faubourg St John Stakes

Cosino Rogue delivered a 14-1 upset Friday night at Delta Downs, defeating defending champion One Fast Cajun in the $25,000 Faubourg St John Stakes.

Ridden by Donell Blake, Cosino Rogue went immediately to the front in the 870-yard event and opened a clear advantage before holding off a late charge from heavy favorite One Fast Cajun. The 5-year-old gelding crossed the wire three-quarters of a length in front in :46.622, earning an 88 speed index.

Cosino Rogue is owned and trained by Ray Robbins. Bred in Louisiana by Matthew Smith, he is a $6,700 repurchase from the LQHBA Yearling Sale. The gelding is sired by Heza Fast Rogue and out of the Cosino mare Cosino De Oh.

Making his first stakes appearance, Cosino Rogue improved his record to 19-4-3-5. The $21,000 winner's share of the purse boosted his career earnings to $92,455.

One Fast Cajun, the overwhelming 1-5 favorite, rallied from the back of the field under Ubaldo Luna to finish second in :46.755. The veteran gelding surged between horses late but could not reel in the winner.

Owned by Darrin and Norman Ladner and trained by Shane Ladner, One Fast Cajun was bred by Terry Gabriel. The 8-year-old son of Heza Fast Dash is out of the Lion Tamer mare Cajun Rocket. He now owns a record of 36-18-4-4 with earnings of $384,850.

One Fast Cajun entered Friday's race riding a three-race winning streak that included victories in the Live Oak Stakes and Virgil Bond Stakes. A multiple stakes winner, he also captured the Faubourg St John Stakes in both 2022 and 2025.

Dead Winner finished third under jockey Leonardo Rodriguez. The 4-year-old colt made a mild bid before finishing evenly for owner and breeder Geral Dewitt and trainer Anthony Arey.

Dead Winner is sired by Azoom Me Too and out of the Heza Fast Dash mare Deadly Jezabel. He has compiled a 26-5-3-2 record with earnings of $97,428. Earlier this season, he finished fifth in the Live Oak Stakes.

Ruse Hint finished fourth, followed by Sarahsfreighttrain and Dash Master Pop. Blue Castle was scratched by the veterinarian.
