Coronados Imagine Dominates Day 2 Of Grade 2 Louisiana Downs Futurity Trials
BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 7, 2025–Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate Coronados Imagine surprised at odds of 8-1 to post a 2-1/4 length win while setting the fastest qualifying time on the last of two days trials for the Grade 2 $346,566 Louisiana Downs Futurity.
Today's five qualifiers will join the five fastest juveniles from Thursday's seven trial races-day 1 (see related story) to vie for the $155,954 winner's purse in the March 28 300-yard final at Louisiana Downs.
Coronados Imagine slightly hopped at the start in trial four under jockey Ponce Aguilar but quickly recovered to post the top qualifying time of 15.625 seconds, a 93-speed index into a 5 mph headwind.
Saul Ramirez, Jr. trains the gelded son of multiple stake sire Coronado Cartel for owner Jose A. Ramos. Richard Joneson bred the $13,500 Heritage Place graduate in Oklahoma from the stakes-placed Furrtreeous mare Can Only Imagine. This is the family of Grade 1 winner Roto Rooster.
Famous Tequila got a neck win in trial five over A Maverick. Ridden by jockey Oliver Martinez, the $34,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling graduate got the second fastest time of 15.676, a 91-speed index into a 5 mph headwind.
Arturo Flores conditions the California-bred daughter of world champion sire One Famous Eagle for owner Melchor Mendez. Steve D. Burns, DVM, bred the gray filly from the stakes-winning Favorite Cartel mare Tequila Sangria. This is the family of champion Quirky.
A Maverick, ridden by jockey Claudio Aguilar, finished 1-1/2 lengths ahead of the field to hang on to the third fastest time of 15.728 seconds, an 89-speed index. Trainer Yasmine Medina conditions the A Revenant gelding for owner Jose Martin, Jr.
Triple K Farms bred the $24,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate in Texas from the First Down Dash mare Down Some Gold, a half-sister to Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1) winner Foose Cash Sr.
Leading Quarter Horse jockey Bryan Candanosa rode She The Ceo to a 1-1/4 length win in the sixth trial to get the fourth fastest time of 15.741 seconds, also an 89-speed index into a 5 mph headwind.
Jose Espinosa is the trainer and breeder of the daughter of multiple stake sire Hawkeye. Party Tyme Racing owns the Texas-bred from the Favorite Cartel mare Nsm Favorite Zoomer.
Stakes sire Muddy Watters got his second qualifier when Mf Tha Second Coming posted a neck win in the final trial under jockey Juan Garcia, Jr. Dustin Rhodes trains the gray filly for owners Lance Moore, Andrea Moore, and Carmen Flores.
Lance Moore bred Bf Tha Second Coming in Texas from the Sir Runaway Dash mare Tf Runaway Freda.
Muddy Watters also sired Shot Of Takillya, who was the second-fastest qualifier on day 1.
