Chilinator Tops Will Rogers Downs Pot O' Gold Futurity Trials

Chilinator delivered a powerful late surge in the final trial Monday to post the fastest qualifying time for the $30,000-added Will Rogers Downs Pot O' Gold Futurity at Will Rogers Downs.

Three trials were contested over 350 yards for 2-year-old Paints and Appaloosas, with the 10 fastest qualifiers advancing to the October 5 final.

Chilinator, a 2-year-old gray filly owned by Amy and Brent Page, stopped the clock in :17.809 while winning the third and final trial (Race 4) by one-half length. The Matt Whitekiller trainee chased the early pace before responding strongly in deep stretch and surging past Dw Showin Sin Off for the victory.

Cody Rodger Smith rode Chilinator, who was bred in Wyoming by Ron Lyles. She is a daughter of leading third-crop Quarter Horse sire Chilitos out of the Sixes Royal mare Sparklin Royal.

The victory was the second in seven career starts for Chilinator, who has also finished second twice and third once while earning $67,917. She was runner-up in the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity and was a finalist in both the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity and Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity.

Wf Manfredi recorded the second-fastest qualifying time when he prevailed in the second trial (Race 3), covering 350 yards in :17.819. The sorrel gelding dueled throughout before digging in to defeat Js Paint Me Fanci by a neck.

Owned by Painted Faith Racing, Wf Manfredi is trained by Dee Keener and was ridden by Mario Delgado. Steven B. Wright bred the Oklahoma-bred son of multiple stakes sire PHQ Apollitical Jess from Biker Chick, by Country Quick Dash.

Wf Manfredi has compiled two wins, two seconds and one third from eight career starts and has earned $26,100. He finished second in the Tulsa State Fair Stakes, third in the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity and was a finalist in the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity and PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity.

The opening trial went to Zazas Coconut Cartel, who posted the fourth-fastest overall time of :17.867 while defeating Bf Valentino by one-half length. The Flying Cowboy 123 filly showed speed throughout and turned away her rival in the final yards.

The 10 qualifiers, in order of time, are Chilinator (:17.809), Wf Manfredi (:17.819), Js Paint Me Fanci (:17.844), Zazas Coconut Cartel (:17.867), Dw Showin Sin Off (:17.885), Bf Valentino (:17.946), Kentucky Owl (:17.979), Collective Power (:17.990), Zazas Hasta Luego (:18.029) and Bg Wagon N Sixxy (:18.070).

The $30,000-added Will Rogers Downs Pot O' Gold Futurity final will be contested on October 5 at Will Rogers Downs.
