Bw Just A Ruger Scores Second Consecutive Stakes Victory In The Mixed Breed Derby
BURLEY, ID–AUGUST 17, 2024–Jockey Jesus Flores piloted Bw Just A Ruger to his second consecutive stakes win this season in the $5,900 Mixed Breed Derby at Cassia County Fair on Saturday.
Bw Just A Ruger clocked a 93 speed index in :13.376 seconds for a 1/2-length victory over post-time favorite M E Easy Jet This and jockey Eric Ayala. The 250-yard victory propelled by a ten mph tailwind paid $4.60 to win on 2-1 odds.
La Choroscada, ridden by Juan Valdez, followed in third. Church Appeal and jockey Oscar Villa placed fourth, and Carlo Rossi, ridden by Jose Borbonio, was fifth. Jess Trial was scratched.
Trained by Glen Jamison, Bw Just A Ruger has five wins and five seconds from ten starts, including a victory in the Oneida County Mixed Breed Derby last week, and the $3,540 winner's share of today's purse boosted her earnings to $22,365.
Thomas Boyd and Betty Weeks bred Bw Just A Ruger out of the Ettaduino mare Bw Robins Lark in Idaho. Maria Baltodano owns the daughter of Justified.
Trainer Jarrett Mills saddled runner-up M E Easy Jet This for owners-breeders Dave Merritt and Kim Newman. The daughter of Ec Jet One has three wins with over $15,000 in earnings and is out of Ettago This by Favorite Cartel.
Heladio Romero bred La Choroscada out of the Simply Macho mare La Polbadera. The Luis Gomez trained filly sired by Ma Ma My Corona has yet to break her maiden.
