Bnb Hasta La Luna Sets Top Mark In Oneida County Fair All Breed Derby Trials - CORRECTED

MALAD, CITY, ID–JULY 28, 2024–Spring Classic Maiden Frolic Oaks runner-up Bnb Hasta La Luna raced to her fourth career win today while setting the fastest qualifying time for the Oneida County Fair All Breed Derby at the Oneida County Fairground.

Eight horses participated in the three trial races, and they will return on Sunday, August 11, to vie for the winner's share of a $10,000-added purse at 300 yards.

Bnb Hasta La Luna was a wire-to-wire winner in the final trial under jockey Jose Espinoza to set the fastest qualifying time of 15.441 seconds, a 98-speed index. Ricardo Castillo trains the daughter of champion Moonin The Eagle for owner Rainee Browning.

Bobby D. Cox bred the four-time winner in Utah from the Brimmerton mare Hasta La Veesta. Bnb Hasta La Luna has earned $17,077 in 12 career starts.

Bnb Hasta La Luna was second in the Spring Classic Maiden Frolic Oaks earlier this year and was a finalist in the Elko Intermountain Futurity last season.

Makin Chicks Move broke her maiden in the second to get the second-fastest qualifying time. Ridden by jockey Oscar Villa, Makin Chicks Move raced over 300 yards in 15.551 seconds, equaling a 95-speed index into a 5 mph crosswind.

Martin Vega conditions the Idaho-bred filly for owner-breeder Five Livestock Company LLC. Makin Chicks Move is out of the stakes winner First Prize Chicks by Spit Curl Jess.

The daughter of multiple stakes sire Maknmoves has compiled a (10) 1-1-4 record and earned $7,288. She was a finalist in the Idaho Cup Derby two races back and the Malad Futurity last season.

Chianti was a 2 1/4-length winner in the opening trial and got the sixth fastest clocking of 15.905 seconds, an 83-speed index into a 5 mph crosswind. Jockey Jose Borbonio had the riding call for trainer Jesus Nolazco.

Randy Maldonado owns the daughter of multiple stakes sire Pappasito from the Maknmoves mare Bf Memory Laney. The two-time winner was bred in Wyoming by Dan and Patrica Baker. Chianti has earned $7,761 in nine career starts.
