Big Daddy Cartel, MJ Farms Trifecta In $340,708 New Mexico Classic Futurity

HOBBS, NM–DECEMBER 15, 2024–MJ Farms bred 2-year-olds by leading New Mexico sire Big Daddy Cartel ran 1-2-3 in the restricted Grade 2 $340,708 New Mexico Classic Futurity for state-bred 2-year-olds Sunday afternoon at Zia Park.

Bv Bridgette Cartel, under jockey Sergio Becerra, Jr., ran her record to three wins in seven starts after a half-length victory over Big Allstar. The Big Daddy Cartel filly completed the 350 yards in 17.113, equaling a 106-speed index into a 10 mph headwind.

Ramon Mendoza trains the $24,000 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale graduate for owner Tungsten Racing Partnership. A finalist in the New Mexican Spring Futurity(RG2) and the New Mexico State Fair Futurity(RG2), Bv Bridgette Cartel was bred by MJ Farms from the Blushing Bug mare Bridgette Bordeaux.

The $166,947 payday increased Bv Bridgette Cartel's earnings to $255,561.

Big Allstar drifted last under jockey Francisco Calderon, finishing second to earn $57,920. James J. Gonzales, III, trains the Big Daddy Cartel gelding for owners Denis and Julie Schoenhofer.

Bred by MJ Farms from the Woodbridge mare Woodys Allstar, Big Allstar doubled his earnings to $114,273.

Gonzales also saddled third-place finisher Lyme Light for owners Nove Racing LLC and Arredondo Racing LLC. Christian Cardenas rode the Big Daddy Cartel filly out of Miss Woody Dee by Woodbridge. Christian Cardenas rode the $47,271 MJ Farms-bred earner.

Fast Copy King, Woody Rocks, Myy Flashn Denali, Two Macho For You, Cue Daddy, Lovely Lady Mae, and Eye Im Flashing completed the field.
