AJ Remember Me Leads Blue Grass Derby Qualifiers at Sandy Ridge

AJ Remember Me continued his winning streak Wednesday afternoon, posting the fastest qualifying time from four trials for the $100,000-added Blue Grass Derby at Sandy Ridge.

The three-year-olds competed at 400 yards over a fast track, with AJ Remember Me winning the third trial in :19.758 for a 110 speed index. The heavy favorite broke on top from the inside and maintained his advantage throughout, defeating Bandita by three-quarters of a length.

Juan Pulido rode AJ Remember Me for owner Corinna Sosa and trainer Waylan Melton. Bred by Rancho El Cabresto Inc., the colt is a $120,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate. He is sired by world champion Apollitical Jess and out of the Tres Seis mare Remember Robyn. His second dam is Dam of Distinction Lotta Love For Robyn ($238,696).

AJ Remember Me has now won three consecutive starts, including the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby in his previous outing. He improved his career record to 10-6-2-2 with earnings of $565,232. As a two-year-old, he finished second in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and third in both the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity and Ah Sigh Handicap.

Cynter Of Attention recorded the second-fastest qualifying time with a wire-to-wire victory in the second trial. Despite hopping at the start, the filly quickly took command and remained in front to defeat Parajax by three-quarters of a length. She completed the 400 yards in :19.800 for a 109 speed index.

Irving Moncada rode Cynter Of Attention for LCI LLC and trainer Joseph Davis. Bred by Steve D. Burns DVM, she is sired by Favorite Cartel and out of graded stakes winner and Dam of Distinction Remember Me Rose, by Corona Cartel. Cynter Of Attention is a full sister to three-time champion Cyber Attack ($1,721,346) and champion Enforce ($612,819).

Coming off a fourth-place finish in the Paul Martin Overnight Stakes, Cynter Of Attention improved her record to 13-3-2-0 with earnings of $28,745.

LCI LLC and Davis also qualified Bandita with the third-fastest time after she finished second to AJ Remember Me in the third trial. With Moncada aboard, Bandita raced just behind the winner throughout and finished three-quarters of a length back in :19.869, earning a 108 speed index.

Bred by Garvan Kelly and Lloyd Yother, Bandita is a $15,000 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale graduate. The filly is sired by KVN Corona and out of the winning Desirio mare Desired Effect. Her female family includes Dam of Distinction Checknbac ($216,410).

Bandita entered the trials following a finalist effort in the Grade 1 Rainbow Oaks and now has a record of 13-2-3-2 with earnings of $36,479. Last season, she was a finalist in the Ah Sigh Handicap Stakes and finished third in the Holiday Handicap Stakes.

The $100,000-added Blue Grass Derby final is scheduled for September 6 at Sandy Ridge.
