Ab Boogie Picks Up Third Stakes of Prairie Meadows Meet With Polk County Derby Win On Saturday

ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 28, 2024—Ab Boogie raced to his fourth consecutive win and third stakes win of the Prairie Meadows meet when he won the $126,740 Polk County Derby as the post-time favorite Saturday afternoon.

Under jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr., Ab Boogie completed the 400-yard task in 19.548 seconds, equaling a 102-speed index with an 8 mph tailwind. It was the fifth career win in 10 starts for the son of champion sire Apollitical Blood.

Trainer Manuel Campos saddled the Iowa home-bred for owner-breeder Ruben Mojica. Bred from the Lil Kool Wagon mare Boogie Wagon, Ab Boogie won the Cyclone Derby in July and the Cy-Hawk stakes in August. The $57,033 Polk County winner's purse increased his earnings to $153,813.

The fastest qualifier, Cowboy 123, showed speed was second best today under jockey Berkley Packer. Trainer Alex Wessels conditions the multiple stakes-placed son of leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 for owner Stephen Moyle. Paragon Farms LLC bred the gelding from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Carmelita. He earned $22,813 for the effort.

A length back, Painted Hocks earned $12,674 for this third-place effort under jockey Angel Ramirez. Also from the Wessels barn, the daughter of leading sire Kiss My Hocks races for owner-breeder Summer Hill Farm LLC. Painted Hocks is out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Paint Me Anywhere.

Magic King Feet, Perrys Special K, Tinys First Cowboy, American Sparrow, Kool Lil Wink completed the field. Really Kool Corona and Summerhills Cowgirl were scratched.
