A Perfert Legacy Df Cruises To Victory In $203,050 Gillespie County Fair Futurity

A Perfert Legacy Df took command midway through the $203,050 Gillespie County Fair Futurity Sunday and cruised home three-quarters of a length in front to score his first stakes victory at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds.

Ridden by Brian Cobos Barraza, the 2-year-old son of last year's leading first-crop sire Dulce Sin Tacha completed the 350 yards in :17.615, earning a 97 speed index over a fast racing surface. The race was contested into a 10 mph headwind.

Sent off as the 3-2 favorite after posting the fastest qualifying time in the trials, A Perfert Legacy Df broke inward from post seven before taking over and drawing clear of Feenix by three-quarters of a length. Feenix finished another three-quarters of a length in front of third-place finisher Bloodwork.

Trainer Heber Deyta-Melendez also owns A Perfert Legacy Df, who earned $71,067 for the victory. The brown colt was bred in Oklahoma by Donald J Friesen from the Streakin La Jolla mare Legacys A Streakin.

A $67,000 purchase from the 2025 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, A Perfert Legacy Df improved his career record to two wins, one second and one third from four starts. The Gillespie County Fair Futurity victory increased his earnings to $81,047.

Feenix turned in a steady effort under jockey Luis L. Vivanco to collect $30,457 for runner-up honors. Jose Luis Sanchez III trains the daughter of champion sire Ivory James for owner Jesus Salazar. Bred by Debbie Eller, Feenix is out of Zoomin N Celebrating, by Azoom.

A $53,000 purchase from the 2025 TQHA Yearling Sale, Feenix has now won three of six starts with two seconds and earnings of $54,847. She was also a finalist in the Grade 2 Louisiana Downs Futurity earlier this season.

Bloodwork broke sharply and held the early advantage before weakening late to finish third, three-quarters of a length behind Feenix. Ali Rivera rode the Apollitical Blood gelding for trainer Isidro Hinojosa and owner HEH Holdings LLC. He earned $20,305 for the effort.

Rancho El Cabresto Inc. bred Bloodwork from the Tres Seis mare Kiss N Toll. With his third-place finish Sunday, Bloodwork has one win and two thirds from six career starts and earnings of $30,507.

Also-rans were Crystal Boi, Mr Jet Fees, Prize Time Girl, Lil Ferrari Wagon, Built for Greatness, Flight History and Yegua Ranchera.
