$80,000 Heritage Place Yearling Graduate Rr Lotta Runforrobyn Breaks Maiden In Mari Hulman Overnight
INDIANAPOLIS, IN–AUGUST 8, 2024–Rr Lotta Runforrobyn bounced off an eighth-place troubled effort in the July 20 Heartland Futurity to break his maiden impressively in the $35,800 Mari Hulman Overnight Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
Rr Lotta Runforrobyn popped the gates under jockey Saul Lopez, then cleared the field to win by 1-1/2 lengths. The royally-bred son leading sire Favorite Cartel clocked 350 yards in 17.677 seconds, equaling a 94-speed index with a 9 mph tailwind.
Anthony F. Cunningham trains the $80,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate for owner A Win Investments. It was the first win in three starts for the colt and the $19,960 winner's purse swelled his bankroll to $26,137.
"We loved his bottom side and we saw him going into the ring," recalled Cunningham. "We walked up to see how much he was going to bring and thought he’d bring a lot more. I bid one time and got him. Then, I was worried I missed something and something was wrong with him but there wasn’t. He’s just been slow to develop, sort of like Prize Kiss (another stakes winning two-year-old for Cunningham and Hann.) He can run, he’s always shown that, he’s just now coming along."
Reliance Ranches, LLC bred Rr Lotta Runforrobyn in Oklahoma from the "blue hen" First Down Dash mare Lotta Love For Robyn.
Runner-up Gringoo picked up $7,160 for his second-place effort. Owner-trainer and breeder Ricardo Martinez named jockey Martin Munoz to ride the 2-year-old son of Favorite Cartel from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess My Joy. A finalist in the Heartland Futurity in his last start, Gringoo boosted his earnings mark to $19,569.
California-bred Fyre In The Sky earned $3,580 for finishing third. It was the best placing in four starts for the daughter of Fly Thru The Fire racing for owner R Chavez Racing LLC. Steve D. Burns, DVM, bred the bay filly from the One Famous Eagle mare Eagle On The Fly. Trainer Shawna Martin named jockey Aron Hunt. To ride.
Rr Lotta Runforrobyn was unnoticed in the field, paying $18.60 for the win.
Sweet And Hott, Farr Lyla, Rk Streakin Cartel, Sweet Vengeance, Legendary Knight, and Kvn McCallister completed the field. Cigaronthebeach was scratched.
