11-1 Longshot Cd Driftin Da Wagon Upsets Zoom Zoom Quarter Horse Stakes

Cd Driftin Da Wagon pulled off an 11-1 upset Monday, defeating six-time stakes winner and race favorite Pappajeto in the $7,000 Zoom Zoom Quarter Horse Stakes (not black type) for 3-year-olds and older at Elko County Fair.

Breaking best from the outside post under jockey Mauro Jesus Rodriguez, Cd Driftin Da Wagon took command early and held off Pappajeto to win the 100-yard dash by a half-length. The 3-year-old filly stopped the clock in :06.410 seconds for a 102 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind over a fast track.

Sent off at 11-1, Cd Driftin Da Wagon returned $24.00 to win. The victory was worth $3,975 and improved her career record to three wins, one second and one third from 12 starts with $12,180 in earnings.

Monday's upset came just over two weeks after Cd Driftin Da Wagon captured the Cassia County Fair Maiden Frolic Stakes on August 22. She also won the Spring Classic Maiden Consolation at Pocatello Downs in May, giving her three stakes victories this season.

Ramiro Fregoso trains the daughter of Cd Rockin Da Wagon for owner Diana M. Diaz. Bred in Wyoming by Daniel J and Carol L Lee, Cd Driftin Da Wagon is out of Jezabella, by Carters Cartel.

Pappajeto, the 1-2 favorite, was away a bit slow but recovered to finish second under jockey Jesus Valenzuela. The 10-year-old gelding is a six-time stakes winner with 20 wins, 13 seconds and four thirds from 45 career starts and $127,367 in earnings.

Stoney Burt trains and co-owns Pappajeto with Linda Burt. Bred by David K. and Linda Burt, the veteran gelding is by Pappasito out of Streaking Secrets, by A Streak Of Cash.

Ts Jess Attack finished another nose back in third after becoming fractious in the gate. Hugo Cerrano rode the 4-year-old mare for trainer Bryan Flores and owner Tranquilino Flores.

The effort marked the fourth career stakes placing for Ts Jess Attack and her third this season. She has two wins, five seconds and five thirds from 21 starts with $20,822 in earnings but has yet to win a stakes race.

Bred by Thomas J. Scheckel, Ts Jess Attack is a daughter of Jess Zoomin out of First Attack, by First Down Dash. She was an $8,500 purchase at the 2023 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

Cartell Prince and Yukos Mountain dead-heated for fourth, followed by Cds Its Only Money, Shiza A Turbo, Go My First Doll, Ccbrookslittleboy and La Punsada.
