$100,000 Repurchase, Joose Boxx Dominates Rich TQHA Sale Futurity[RG1] at Retama Park
SELMA, TX–JULY 27, 2024—Already a grade 2 futurity winner, Joose Boxx raced to his fourth career win in six starts Saturday when he won the $606,121 restricted Grade 1 TQHA Sale Futurity by 1-1/2 lengths at Retama Park.
The $100,000 TQHA Yearling Sale repurchase completed the 350 yards in 17.998 seconds, equaling an 86-speed index into a 15 mph headwind. The $269,724 winner's purse nearly doubled the gelding's earnings to $555,728
Trainer Juan Diaz, Jr., named jockey Nestor Duran to ride the 2-year-old son of leading 2-year-old sire Kiss My Hocks for owner Javier De Los Santos Muzquiz.
"I feel really happy to win this kind of race," Duran said in the winner's circle. "I was waiting for him to break at the gate. Sometimes, he trips up a little bit, but today was his day. He made a perfect trip and kept going towards the wire."
The Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity winner ran fourth in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park on June 1.
"We were very nervous coming in but knew he had a lot in him," owner Muzquiz said after the race. "He won the Oklahoma Futurity and was fourth in the Heritage Place Futurity, so winning this race means a lot to me."
"He's done well since his first race," Diaz, Jr. said. "He ran great in Oklahoma, so we had high expectations for him coming into the race." When asked what's next, Diaz replied, "We will see how he turns out tomorrow and where we can go from there."
Gerry Lynn Sigman and Diane Tatum bred Joose Boxx in Texas from the Big Daddy Cartel mare Cd Daddys Home.
Stablemate Kiss My Maruska settled for his third graded placing this season after finishing second. Also, by Kiss Mu Hocks, the colt was third in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity on June 1 and second in the Grade 3 Louisiana Downs Futurity in March.
Diaz, Jr. named jockey Victor Urieta, Jr., to ride the $88,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate for owner Heavy Hitters Racing Stables. Tyler and Naia Graham bred the colt in Texas from the Favorite Cartel mare Ms Highmaitenance. Kiss My Maruska has earned $344,612 off a (6) 2-3-1 record.
