Wyoming Approves Permit Transfer Ahead of Global Gaming Solutions’ Sweetwater Downs Acquisition

Global Gaming Solutions moved closer to adding Sweetwater Downs to its racing operations Friday when the Wyoming Gaming Commission approved the transfer of Wyoming Horse Racing LLC’s live-event and simulcasting permits to a subsidiary of the company.

The approval came during a special commission meeting as Global Gaming Solutions works to acquire Wyoming Funding Holdings LLC, the parent company of Wyoming Horse Racing. The operation includes Sweetwater Downs in Rock Springs and 13 off-track wagering facilities across Wyoming.

Pete Liguori, a Wyoming Horse Racing partner and executive vice president, told commissioners the transaction is expected to close next week. The permit transfer will become effective when the acquisition closes.

Global Gaming Solutions already operates Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. The pending acquisition would expand its racing and wagering operations into Wyoming.

Addressing commissioners, Global Gaming Solutions CEO Skip Seeley emphasized the company’s experience in horse racing, off-track wagering, gaming, hospitality and regulatory compliance.

“We intend to work with Wyoming horsemen and this commission to support a strong and sustainable racing program,” Seeley said.

Sweetwater Downs completed its 18-day Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse meet September 27, distributing more than $3.5 million in purses. The proposed ownership change comes as Wyoming’s racing industry prepares for the assignment of its next season’s live racing dates.

The commission’s published calendar lists its next meeting for November 19–20. Live racing dates for Wyoming tracks are expected to be assigned on November 19.
