ELGIN, TX—September 28, 2026

The Texas Quarter Horse Association has sent a reminder that regular nominations for the $75,000-added 2027 Texas Breeders Futurity are due October 15, 2026. The $250 fee applies to eligible horses that were not nominated during the Early Bird period, which closed May 1.

The futurity is open to all 2025 Accredited Texas Bred foals. Its second running is scheduled for Sam Houston Race Park, with 330-yard trials on April 17, 2027, and the final on May 8. The inaugural race carried a total purse of $541,000 in 2026.

The 2027 futurity also offers $20,000 in nominators’ awards. The nominators of the first four finishers will receive $10,000, $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, respectively. The awards remain with the nominators even if the horses have changed owners by race day.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

TQHA encourages owners who purchased a yearling at the TQHA, Ruidoso or Heritage Place sales to check its alphabetical Early Bird nominee list before making a regular nomination payment. A purchased horse may already have been nominated. No regular nomination fee is due for those horses; their next payment is due November 15, 2026.

The association has updated ownership information submitted with the 2026 TQHA Sale paperwork and asks buyers to check that their horses are listed correctly. Buyers of previously nominated horses should submit an Ownership Change Form so TQHA can send future payment reminders to the right person. All payment reminders will be sent by email only.
