ELGIN, TX—October 28, 2026

The Texas Quarter Horse Association (TQHA) Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for 2027, with expanded eligibility requirements providing additional educational opportunities for students connected to the Texas Quarter Horse racing industry.

Completed applications must be received at the TQHA offices no later than January 4, 2027.

Changes made to the Foundation's scholarship eligibility requirements last year opened the program to a broader group of applicants, including children and grandchildren of individuals involved in Quarter Horse racing. The revisions are designed to make scholarship assistance more accessible to families within the racing community.

Another significant feature of the program is that scholarships are available for more than traditional undergraduate education. Eligible applicants may seek financial assistance for undergraduate studies, postgraduate education, including veterinary medicine, and vocational or trade school programs.

The expanded opportunities reflect the Foundation's commitment to supporting educational advancement and career development among young people associated with the Texas Quarter Horse industry.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for consideration, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a TQHA or Texas Quarter Horse Youth Association (TQHYA) member in good standing as of the application date. Individuals who are not currently members must apply for membership.
  • Be a high school senior or enrolled at an accredited college, university, or vocational school.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, including high school and postsecondary grades when applicable.
  • Be a United States citizen and a resident of Texas.

Previous recipients of a TQHA Foundation scholarship may also reapply under certain circumstances. Those pursuing postgraduate education, including Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) programs, are eligible for additional consideration.

Recipients whose original scholarship provided funding for two years or less may also apply for additional undergraduate assistance.

The Foundation encourages eligible students and families involved in the Quarter Horse industry to review the updated requirements and take advantage of the expanded scholarship opportunities.

January 4 Application Deadline

All completed applications must be received by the TQHA offices no later than Monday, January 4, 2027.
