OQHRA Opens 2027 Stakes Nominations and Announces Fall Dates for Horsemen

The Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association has several dates approaching for horsemen, beginning with 2027 stakes nominations. The association also announced new race conditions, the start of its board election, dates for its stallion auction and a cookout at Will Rogers Downs.

While the 2026 racing season is still underway, nomination forms for 2027 races are now available online. Payments for many races begin October 15, and OQHRA asks horsemen to check each form for its specific payment dates and requirements. CLICK HERE to access the forms.

Enhanced Integrity and Animal Welfare Protocols

All Oklahoma races now have added Enhanced Integrity and Animal Welfare Protocols in their conditions. These protocols cover the period from nomination through the final and are focused on protecting the welfare of our horses and the integrity of competition.

The conditions allow for measures such as out-of-competition testing, a secured detention or observation barn, and increased biological monitoring. The new conditions allow for additional oversight when needed. We encourage everyone planning to nominate to read the conditions in full.

OQHRA Board of Directors Elections

The first round of board election balloting has been mailed and should arrive in members’ mailboxes this week. This is the nomination round; members may nominate anyone on the membership list enclosed with their ballot.

Once nominations are received, OQHRA will mail a final ballot to determine the new board members. The association urged members to watch their mail and participate in both rounds. The members of the OQHRA Board make many decisions that affect everyone in the industry and Oklahoma Quarter Horse racing, so participation matters!

OQHRA Silent Stallion Auction

OQHRA is gathering breeding donations for its upcoming Silent Stallion Auction, which will run November 1 through December 15. The auction is scheduled earlier than usual this year. Stallion owners who would like to donate a breeding can obtain donation information and a form from OQHRA.

OQHRA extended their gratitude. “We appreciate the generosity of our stallion owners and everyone who supports the auction.”

Will Rogers Downs Horsemen’s Cookout

OQHRA and Green Country Track Ministry invite horsemen to a cookout Friday, October 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Will Rogers Downs backside. The event offers horsemen a chance to gather for lunch during the fall meet and a chance to fellowship with other horsemen.
