Building on the popularity of its daytime September online contest, Los Alamitos Race Course will conduct the Los Al 123 Sunsets & Stars Challenge, a free-to-play online picking contest offering a $5,000 total cash prize pool during its nighttime Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred meet starting on Saturday night, October 3.

Running from October 3, which will be headed by the trials for the Golden State Million Futurity, and continuing through Sunday, December 20, 2026, the contest gives racing fans a chance to test their skills and compete for cash prizes. How the Contest Works

Each racing night the contest will cover the final five races of the official Los Alamitos nighttime card. Participants select one Primary Pick and one Alternate Pick (a backup in case of a scratch) for each of the five designated contest races. Selections lock strictly 30 minutes prior to the scheduled post time of the first contest race of the night.

Every selection is scored as a mythical $2 across-the-board wager ($2 Win, $2 Place, and $2 Show, totaling $6 in virtual value) using official track payouts:

1st Place Finish: Credits official $2 Win, Place, and Show payouts.
2nd Place Finish: Credits official $2 Place and Show payouts.
3rd Place Finish: Credits official $2 Show payout.

Mythical payouts accumulate night by night into each player’s virtual bankroll. No actual money is wagered; bankrolls serve strictly as leaderboard points.

Three Leaderboards — Multiple Ways to Win

The Los Al 123 Sunsets & Stars Challenge features three distinct leaderboards under a single entry. Players enter once, and every race night automatically counts toward the Overall board as well as the active half-meet board:

Overall Leaderboard ($3,000 Total Pool): Covers the full meet from October 3 to December 20. The top 10 overall bankrolls share $2,500, plus a $500 bonus goes to the player with the most total winners across the entire meet.
First Half Leaderboard ($1,000 Total Pool): Runs October 3 through November 8, closing on Super Derby night. Top bankrolls pay $500 for 1st, $200 for 2nd, and $150 for 3rd, plus a $150 bonus for most winners in the First Half.
Second Half Leaderboard ($1,000 Total Pool): Offers a fresh start from November 14 to December 20. Players can join at any time before November 14 and compete for the full Second Half prize pool: $500 for 1st, $200 for 2nd, $150 for 3rd, plus a $150 bonus for most winners in the Second Half.

Players are eligible to win prizes across multiple leaderboards simultaneously.
