Los Alamitos Launches Free-To-Play Los Al 123 Thoroughbred Challenge With $3,000 In Cash Prizes

CYPRESS, CASeptember 11, 2026

Horse racing fans will have the chance to test their handicapping skills at no cost during the September Thoroughbred meet, as the Los Alamitos Racing Association today announced the launch of the Los Al 123 Thoroughbred Challenge.

The completely free-to-play online contest features a $3,000 total cash prize pool provided by Los Alamitos. The challenge spans all six days of the daytime September meet: Friday through Sunday, September 11–13, and Friday through Sunday, September 18–20, 2026. Daily post time is set for 1:00 PM Pacific.

There is no buy-in or entry fee, and all picks score purely mythical wagers. Registration is free and open to all eligible racing enthusiasts at www.losal123.com.

How the Contest Works

Each race day, the contest covers the final five races of the official Los Alamitos September Thoroughbred card. For each race, participants select a Primary Pick and may add an optional Alternate Pick as a backup. If the Primary is scratched, the Alternate takes over automatically; if no Alternate was chosen, the post-time favorite substitutes. Selections lock strictly 30 minutes prior to the scheduled post time of the first contest race each day.

Players accumulate a virtual bankroll based on real track payouts:

  • Every selection is scored as a mythical $2 across-the-board wager ($2 Win, $2 Place, and $2 Show, totaling $6 in virtual value).
  • 1st Place Finish: Player earns the official $2 Win, Place, and Show payouts.
  • 2nd Place Finish: Player earns the official $2 Place and Show payouts.
  • 3rd Place Finish: Player earns the official $2 Show payout.

Virtual payouts aggregate over the six racing days into a total contest bankroll. No actual money is wagered, and mythical bankrolls function strictly as points on the tournament leaderboard.

$3,000 Cash Prize Structure

The ten players with the largest total accumulated bankrolls at the conclusion of the meet on September 20 will share $2,500 in cash prizes:

  • 1st Place: $700
  • 2nd Place: $450
  • 3rd Place: $325
  • 4th Place: $250
  • 5th Place: $200
  • 6th Place: $175
  • 7th Place: $125
  • 8th Place: $100
  • 9th Place: $100
  • 10th Place: $75

In addition to the bankroll prizes, a standalone $500 Most Winners Prize will be awarded to the player who selects the highest number of winning horses across the six days. Players are eligible to win both a bankroll prize and the Most Winners Prize.

Registration and Rules

Players can register at any time during the meet at www.losal123.com. While late registration is allowed, any missed racing days prior to signing up will receive a score of zero.

In the event of ties for overall bankroll positions, tiebreakers will be determined in sequence by: (1) most winning selections, (2) most place finishes, and (3 ) highest single-race payout credit. If players remain tied, the applicable prizes are combined and split equally.
