LOS ALAMITOS, CA—October 12, 2026

For owners, breeders, and trainers looking to campaign top-tier juveniles in 2027, Los Alamitos Race Course will continue to be among the premier destinations for elite Quarter Horse racing. With three million-dollar futurities returning in the upcoming racing calendar, now is also a great time to set your plans, review important late payment deadlines, and plan for what promises to be an action-packed season of rich futurities here in 2027.

There is still plenty of time to get in on the action, but important late nomination deadlines are fast approaching for the 2027 Grade 1 million-dollar futurities scheduled at the Orange County track:

Upcoming Late Payment Deadlines at a Glance

  • 2027 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity: Special late nomination payment of $2,825 is due on November 15, 2026. This prestigious event, the richest horse race in California of any breed in 2027, also features $27,000 in nominator awards ($6,000 for 1st, $4,000 for 2nd, $3,000 for 3rd, and $2,000 each for 4th through 10th).
Past winners of this race include Corona Cartel, Corona Kool, Ocean Runaway, Good Reason SA, He Looks Hot, Flash N Roll, Lethal Cowboy 123, and many more!
  • 2027 Ed Burke Million Futurity: Late nominations are accepted with a payment of $2,000 on or before December 15, 2026. To keep your entry eligible, the nominator must continue to make all remaining sustaining payments and fees due after December 15, 2026.

The Crown Jewels: Three Million-Dollar Futurities are Set for 2027 at Los Alamitos

The 2027 stakes schedule highlights these three-powerhouse Grade 1 events, spaced out nicely throughout the year:

  • The Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity: Set for its 77th running, with trials and final running in late spring to early summer (June 2027). For owners that have already nominated horses, the next sustaining payment of $300 is also set for December 15, 2026.
  • The Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity: Scheduled for October of 2027, carrying a projected $1,000,000 purse.
  • The Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity: Featuring trials in November and California’s richest race taking center stage in December 2027.

In addition to these headline events, horsemen can target other major open futurities throughout the year, including the Grade 2 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity with trials in mid-April, and the Grade 2 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity with trials in late August.

Unmatched Weather and Even Track Racing Conditions

Beyond the outstanding purses and year-round racing, Los Alamitos is fortunate to enjoy the famous Southern California weather during most of the year. Here are some examples of the weather conditions and track consistency on some of our recent trial nights:

  • 2026 Golden State Million Trials (October 3): Across 14 trials with fields of no more than eight horses per trial, the racing was remarkably even. The opening 400-yard heat clocked in at :19.938, while the 14th and final trial went in :19.892—complemented by a minimal wind variance across the card.
  • 2025 Los Alamitos Two Million Trials: Continuing with the track's historical trend of a fast-racing surface during most winter nights, a stellar contingent of 116 participants faced off across 12 trials on a fast track, where the first 400-yard heat went in :19.699 and the 12th trial went in :19.725.
