César Pedrero’s Hall of Fame Induction Honors Legacy of Quarter Horse Racing in Mexico
MEXICO CITY, MEX–JUNE 7, 2026–The AMCCCCM has issued a “save the date” announcement inviting the Quarter Horse community to attend the formal induction ceremony honoring César Pedrero Anaya’s entrance into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame.
Pedrero’s induction stands as a historic recognition of Mexico’s contributions and achievements within the Quarter Horse industry.
An AQHA member since 1968, Pedrero was the first international member of AQHA and helped co-found the Mexican Quarter Horse Association that same year. A 40-year cumulative American Quarter Horse breeder, he also produced the first American Quarter Horse halter show in Mexico in 1970.
Pedrero later introduced Quarter Horse racing to Mexico in 1983, helping establish a foundation for futurities and derbies that continue to grow in success. He owned two Mexican champion racehorses, Stage Door Smash in 1988 and Passem Glass in 1992, and was also inducted into two halls of fame in Mexico for his lifelong work in the equine industry.
César Pedrero Anaya, who lived from 1936 to 2007, dedicated his life to horses, first as a competitor and later as an importer, breeder, and owner of racing, conformation, and working horses. He laid the groundwork for Quarter Horse breeding in Mexico and built a bridge that brought quality American Quarter Horses from the United States to Mexican breeders.
Many ranches have taken pride over the years in owning horses Pedrero bred or imported. Widely regarded as a pioneer of the Mexican horse industry, he helped foster early interest in the Quarter Horse with vision, dedication, and lasting influence.
Pedrero was instrumental in organizing the Mexican Quarter Horse Breeders Association in 1968 alongside other early breeders and served as its president during various terms. He also played a leading role in advancing Quarter Horse racing at Hipódromo de las Américas, as well as Charrería and the Mexican Conformation Circuit.
César Pedrero will be formally inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame during the official ceremony scheduled for September 11 and 12 at AQHA headquarters in Amarillo, Texas.
