Cayenneoverthemoon Tries And Succeeds At A Second Chance In The Isawssugarbear Stakes

ROCK SPRINGS, WY–SEPTEMBER 1, 2024–It took a photo to determine the order of finish in the $17,000 Isawssugarbear Stakes, for three-year-old old and older fillies and mares, at Sweetwater Downs on Sunday. Seven horses finished within a neck or less of each other at the wire.

Cayenneoverthemoon prevailed as the leader and got her fourth win this season with jockey Jarred Journet in the pilot's seat.

Journet got his second win of the day aboard Cayenneoverthemoon; the first was with her full brother Moon Em N Dash, who was the second fastest qualifier in today's John Whipp Ontario Stallion Breeders Derby trials.

Cayenneoverthemoon was near the back of the pack after breaking from the gates. The daughter of Brindis Por Cayenne flew from the outside and made her way to the front, winning by a neck over Sage Runner and Jacob Cardenas.

She clocked an 89 speed index in 17.682 seconds and 350-yard victory paid $8.20 to win on 3-1 odds. Jg Corona Virus, ridden by Ricardo Del Cid, followed for third.

Trained by Tryston Matt, Cayenneoverthemoon improved her race record to 13-4-3 from 30 starts and the $8,500 winner's share of the purse increased her bankroll to over $137,000.

She won the Ron Moosman Memorial Stakes twice, including in May of this year. She also won the Raysha's Run – Racing For A Cure Stakes and Wyoming Bred Derby. Today's victory is especially sweet, after placing fifth in last year's Isawssugarbear Stakes.

S Bar S bred the five-year-old mare out of Dasmetothemoon by Apollo (TB). Cayenneoverthemoon is owned by Walter Larson.

Trainer Jose Chavez saddled runner-up Sage Runner for owner Jose Castaneda. The three-time winning daughter of One Valiant Hero has earned $37,847 from 16 starts. Marty and Shalia Powers of Oklahoma bred the four-year-old filly out of Sorchae by Tac It Like A Man.

Jg Corona Virus is bred and owned by Israel Juarez and Sixto Garcia of Utah. The four-year-old daughter of Glock has lit the board eight of ten times with three wins and $35,517 in earnings, including the Yellow Rose F&M Stakes at Weber Downs in April. The Jorge Estrada trained filly is out of Tat Team Usa by Separatist.

Lil Rider, Jkh Almost A Dynasty, Ud Cholula, The Eagle Way, Relentlessdebauchery, Jims Cap and My Marmeta Diva round out the order of finish.
