Corona Surfer Continues to Set the Pace With Surfinoverthemoon Clocking His Third Fastest Time

BEAR RIVER, WY–JULY 12, 2026–Wyoming sire Corona Surfer continues to showcase his ability to sire speed, with his standout son Surfinoverthemoon recording the fastest qualifying time in three consecutive Wyoming derby trials during the 2026 season.

After topping the qualifiers for both the Dan Lockie Derby in May and the 307 Horse Racing Wyoming Bred Derby in June, Surfinoverthemoon completed the hat trick on July 11 by posting the fastest qualifying time for the $24,500-added KC Carden Wyoming Bred Derby at Wyoming Downs.

Ridden by Jacob Cardenas, Surfinoverthemoon rallied from just off the pace to defeat Kcross Lever Action by three-quarters of a length in the opening trial, covering 350 yards in :17.543 while earning a 96 speed index to lead all qualifiers into the July 25 final.

Surfinoverthemoon improved his career record to four wins, four seconds and three thirds from 13 starts with earnings of $57,746. He entered the trials off a third-place finish in the 307 Horse Racing Wyoming Bred Derby and was also third in the Dan Lockie Derby final.

Bred by Walter Larson, Surfinoverthemoon is out of the Apollo TB mare Dashmetothemoon.

Surfinoverthemoon began his remarkable qualifying streak on May 3 at Miles City, posting the fastest qualifying time for the Dan Lockie Derby. He led from gate to wire while covering 300 yards in :15.236 and winning by 1¼ lengths before returning to finish third in the May 16 final.

He followed that effort on June 5 at Wyoming Downs with another fastest qualifying performance in the 307 Horse Racing Wyoming Bred Derby. Under Jacob Cardenas, he again led throughout, stopping the timer in :17.529 for 350 yards while winning by one-half length to head the field for the June 21 final.

Through seven crops to race, Corona Surfer has sired 35 winners from 61 starters with progeny earnings of nearly $1.5 million while averaging 23,500 from his limited runners. The Grade 1 son of leading sire Corona Cartel is the sire of three black-type horses and 14 stakes finalists.

Corona Surfer has sired three runners with earnings exceeding $100,000, led by multiple stakes winner Sonny Surfer SI 93 with $155,978. He is also the sire of Hynson SI 102, a Zia 870 Championship Stakes finalist with earnings of $151,752, and Hush Yer Face SI 99, a Sunland Park stakes finalist with earnings of $124,757.

Other leading performers include Shade Factor SI 98 ($89,578), Surfz Up SI 93 ($83,002), runner-up in the New Mexico State Fair Juvenile Stakes, Kobe D Man SI 104 ($74,015) and Wahine SI 110 ($69,918), a finalist in both the New Mexico Breeders' Stakes-RG3 and the New Mexico State Fair Juvenile.

Corona Surfer is a full brother to AQHA Racing Champion Uncle D, the Champion Two-Year-Old and Champion Two-Year-Old Colt who earned $689,165 while winning the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity and All American Juvenile Stakes and finishing second in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity.

Owned by Woods Farm and Chad Wood, Corona Surfer stands the 2026 breeding season at Woods Farm in Bear River, Wyoming. An accredited Wyoming Program stallion, his offspring are also eligible for the Beehive, Bitterroot, Arizona and Minnesota breeding programs.
