EVANSTON, WY–JULY 4, 2025–The field is now set for the $25,000-added KC Karden Wyoming Bred Derby, which will be run at Wyoming Downs in Evanston on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
The six trial races for 3-year-old Wyoming Bred Quarter Horses were held on July 4 at the 350-yard distance, with a clear track and steady winds playing a factor in the day’s performances.
Fastest qualifier honors went to Kcross Comin In Hot, a sorrel gelding by Rgr Jungle Jock out of Caseys Six Pick by My Special Bear.
Bred by Wagonhammer Ranch and owned by BDS Performance Horses, Kcross Comin In Hot broke sharply and drew away to win his trial by one and a half lengths in 17.845 seconds, into a 15 mph crosswind, under jockey Victor Dominguez for trainer Skyler Greene.

It was the second win 10 starts for the stakes-placed gelding who has earned $34,176. He entered the trials off a fifth-placed effort in the Wyoming Bred Derby at Energy Downs on June 7.
The second-fastest time was posted by multiple stakes-placed A Dash Of Steffie, a filly by Glock out of Steffies Dashn Moves by Maknmoves. Bred by Ron & Laurie Moosman and owned by Eddie Jensen, A Dash of Steffie surged late to win her trial in 17.926 seconds into a 15 mph headwind.
Second in the Ron Cook Accredited Wyoming Bred Futurity and third in the WABRA Wyoming Bred Futurity last year, she was ridden by Jesus Virgen for trainer Tony Hyde. A Dash Of Steffie has earned $45,675 in eight career starts.
Just fractions behind was Papas Tribe, a gelding by Pappasito out of Tribal Fire by four-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty.
Also bred by Ron & Laurie Moosman and owned by Eddie Jensen, Papas Tribe was just caught at the wire in the same heat as A Dash Of Steffie, clocking a time of :17.943 seconds under jockey Jacob Cardenas for trainer Jess R. Matt.
Another impressive effort came from Shiza A Turbo, a filly by Glock out of Line In The Night by Teller Cartel. She closed strongly in her trial to stop the clock at 17.993 for owners Juan A. Ruiz and Luis A. Ruiz. She was bred by Pedro Mena and conditioned by Martha Maldonado, with Julian Zavala up.
Rounding out the top five was Y O At A Glance, a gelding by Fiftyshadezofgrey out of Barely A Secret by Brindis Por Cayenne. The homebred for Gerald Kahl turned in a game effort to win his trial in 18-flat with Jacob Cardenas aboard for trainer Jess R. Matt.
Each of the qualifiers will return for the KC Karden Wyoming Bred Derby final on July 19 to vie for the winner’s share of the $25,000-added purse.
