TQHA Sale Graduates Dominate Day 1 of Grade 2 Louisiana Downs Futurity Trials
BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 6, 2025–The highly anticipated 2-year-old season debuted today at Louisiana Downs with the first day of two days of trials for the Grade 2 $346,566 Louisiana Downs Futurity. Seven additional trials are set for tomorrow (March 7).
The 10 qualifiers will vie for the winner's purse, valued at $155,954, in the March 29 final.
Three of the five qualifiers on day 1, including the two fastest, are graduates of the 2024 TQHA Yearling Sale.
Di Kvn Waven was much the best under jockey Oliver Martinez as she coasted to a one-length victory and the top qualifying time of 15.415 seconds, a 101-speed index into a 5 mph headwind. She picked up $3,000 of the $5,000 trial purse for the effort.
Carlos Camarena trains the $24,000 TQHA grad for owner Refugio Alvarado. The daughter of multiple stakes sire Kvn Corona entered the trials off two impressive works at Retama, where she was fourth fastest from 59 heads who participated in schooling races on February 5.
Bred by Jacobo Garza, Di Dvn Waven is the first foal from the winning Mr Piloto mare Waven Bye Piloto. The third dam is the stakes-winning Mr. Jess Perry mare St Pats Tea, dam of Texas Classic Futurity(G1) winner and multiple stakes winner Bodacious Dash.
Shot Of Takillya, runner-up to Di Kvn Waven, finished 1-1/4 lengths ahead of the field to hang on to the second-fastest clocking of 15.600, a 94-speed index. The $20,000 TQHA repurchase races for owner-breeder Sunset Well Service, Inc.
Trainer Jorge Valenzuela tapped jockey Raul Hernandez, Jr. to ride the Muddy Watters colt out of Takillya Gurl by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.
Another homebred, San Vandido, scored a one-length victory in the fourth trial for owner-breeder Omar Arriaga. The colt by first-crop sire San Lorenzo was bumped at the start under jockey Gilberto Linares but drew clear to stop the clock in the third fastest time of 15.645 seconds, a 92-speed index into a 5 mph headwind.
Jose Sanchez, III conditions San Vandido who is the first foal from the Ivan James mare Roma.
Jockey Javier Hernandez booted Eagle On A June Bug to a 1-1/4 length victory in the fifth trial to get the fourth fastest clocking of 16.687 seconds, a 91-speed index into a 5 mph headwind.
Victor Oviedo trains the $20,000 TQHA Sale graduate for owners Sergio Jimenez and Enrique Santollo. Robert Moudy III bred the colt by first-crop sire Eagles Fly Higher from the Blushing Bug mare Sandy June Bug. Eagle On A June Bug is a half-sibling to four black-type winners, including RG2 winner Colby James.
Toxic Dynasty romped to a 1-1/2 length win in the third trial to get the final qualifying spot on day 1. Ridden by jockey Gilberto Linares, the son of four-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty stopped the clock in 15.810 seconds, an 87-speed index into a 5 mph headwind.
Toxic Dynasty was the second qualifier for trainer Jose Sanchez, who is also the breeder. Toxic Dynasty is out of the Heza Fast Dash mare Pr Magical Dash.

Louisiana Downs will host tomorrow's final day of the Louisiana Downs Futurity trials (March 7). Frist post is 1:05 p.m. (CST). The five fastest from Friday's trials will join today's five fastest in the March 29 final.
