Leading Indiana sire Habits Secret’s top runners have spent much of the season battling one another in the state’s biggest races, and Saturday it was Nachor Secret’s turn to come out on top.
Nachor Secret collected his fifth career stakes victory Saturday at Horseshoe Indianapolis, defeating stablemate Tachas Secret by a half-length in the $81,700 Bob Woodard Memorial Classic.
Ridden by Martin Munoz, Nachor Secret covered the 400 yards in :20.179 for owner, breeder and trainer Ricardo Martinez. The 5-year-old son of Habits Secret is out of Eyes A Favorite, by Favorite Cartel
Nachor Secret has won eight of 18 career starts and earned more than $310,000. His five stakes victories include this year’s Easys Night Beat Stakes, and he also finished second in the Born Runner Classic.
Tachas Secret finished second for owners Marla K. Robinson Family Trust and Duke Racing. Also trained by Martinez, the Habits Secret mare is an 11-time stakes winner with 14 victories from 29 starts and earnings of $596,922.
Streakindownthebeach was also a finalist in the Bob Woodard Memorial Classic, which continued a season-long battle among Habits Secret’s leading runners.
Earlier this year, his three leading money earners were all entered in the Born Runner Classic. Tachas Secret defeated Nachor Secret by a half-length, while Streakindownthebeach was also a finalist.
Tachas Secret stands alone as the record holder for the most career stakes victories at Horseshoe Indianapolis with 11. She is also the richest Indiana-bred and/or Indiana-sired mare in state history and ranks second only to Stone Cold Leader among the all-time leading Indiana-sired Quarter Horses by earnings.
Habits Secret’s Influence Extends Beyond Indiana
While Habits Secret continues to lead Indiana’s sire ranks, his influence is also being felt outside the state. His 2-year-old son Nachos Secret recently qualified for the BOCO Futurity at Sandy Ridge in Kentucky and is expected to return for the final September 6.
Nachos Secret has finished second twice from three career starts and earned $10,850. Prior to his BOCO Futurity trial, he finished second in the Mari Hulman George Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis on July 30.
Despite relatively small numbers, Habits Secret has compiled an impressive record at stud. Through eight crops to race, he has sired 52 starters, with 28 winners and 14 black type runners.
His offspring have earned $2.4 million and average more than $45,000 per starter. He is the sire of five runners with earnings exceeding $100,000.
Leading the way is Tachas Secret with earnings approaching $600,000 and numerous state honors, including four Central Hi-Point titles. His other leading performers include Nachor Secret SI 105 ($310,377), Streakindownthebeach SI 108 ($271,353), Tin Knocker SI 94 ($132,439), Packin Secrets SI 93 ($100,294), Sin Tachas Secret SI 95 ($92,934) and First Habits SI 90 ($86,214).
Habits Secret continues to build on that record in 2026, with his runners adding black-type performances and stakes final appearances both inside and outside Indiana.
