Louisiana Downs Opens With Stakes Doubleheader

BOSSIER CITY, LA—JANUARY 3, 2016—Scoopies Leaving You, a 5-year-old son of Coronas Leaving You racing for Joel Galindo, is one of 10 sprinters entered in Saturday’s 250-yard, $15,000 Harrah’s Dash Stakes at Louisiana Downs.

Trained by Kevin Broussard, Scoopies Leaving You is coming off of a half-length victory in the 350-yard Sam’s Town Stakes at Evangeline Downs on December 19. The stallion has won five of his six starts at Louisiana Downs, including four of five during the track’s 2014 winter meet.

Scoopies Leaving You drew post 7 and will be ridden by Donald Watson. The stallion’s nine opponents include Frank Benson’s Sleepers Best Corona, a 5-year-old Coronas Prospect gelding trained by Javier Contreras. Sleepers Best Corona won four of his seven outs and earned $73,250 in 2015, and his season resume included a nose victory over Scoopies Leaving You in the 220-yard Jess Meche Stakes at Evangeline Downs on November 28.

Alfonso Lujan will ride Sleepers Best Corona from post 9.

Marathon Stakes

Bullard Farms’ Fire On The Fly drew post 6 for Saturday’s 870-yard, $15,000 Marathon Stakes.

A homebred gray 6-year-old Jet Cartel gelding trained by Amanda Buchanan-Hadley, Fire On The Fly will be making his first start since November 22, when he ran second, one length behind winner Executive Trust, in the 870-yard, $55,000 King Rick Rack Stakes at Zia Park in New Mexico. The gelding banked $41,451 from six outs last season, and his resume included a wire-to-wire, 3 1/2-length victory in the 870-yard, $25,000 Governor’s Cup Marathon Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park.

Fire On The Fly will be ridden by Donell Blake in the Marathon Stakes.
