Flight Club’s Win Streak Continues in $11,910 AQHA Bonus Challenge at Century Mile

EDMONTON, AB – JUNE 4, 2022 – Flight Club continued his winning ways with his third consecutive win on Saturday night in the opener at Century Mile, the $11,910 (US) AQHA Bonus Challenge.

Flight Club ($2.70) was the heavy favorite in the short but accomplished field and broke on top from the rail in the 350-yard event. J.B. Botello guided the 4-year-old to a three-quarter length victory over Honor the Fast Man. The final time of :17.882 earned the winner a 97 speed index.

Flight Club is a 4-year-old colt bred by Steve Burns, DVM in California, out of the Separatist mare Separate Flight. William Leech trains for owner Charles Stojan.

The Foose colt won his fourth stake in nine career starts and added $6,193 to his career earnings of $56,231.

Flight Club won the Evergreen Park John Deere Juvenile Challenge in Grande Prairie in 2020 and competed in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge (G2) at Albuquerque that fall.

As a 3-year-old, he ran in the Evergreen Park Adequan Derby Challenge and ended the year with a win in the Canada Cup Derby at Century Mile. His most recent win came in the Old Timers Classic Stakes to kick off the Century Downs meet in April.

Multiple stakes winner and graded stakes placed Honor the Fast Man, with jockey Martin Ortiz in the irons, finished in second place. Honor the Fast Man is a triple play for Tom Kenway, who bred, owns and trains the 8-year-old gelding. The Alberta-bred is by Honor the Perry and out of the stakes winning mare Buckle High, by Heza Fast Man.

Honor the Fast Man is an accomplished gelding with nine wins and 11 seconds in 30 starts and $96,789, all in his native Canada. He excelled in his 3-year-old year with wins in the Adequan Evergreen Park Derby Challenge, Alberta Bred Derby and Canada Quarter Horse Cup Derby.

Kenway was also represented in the race by third place finisher Double Cruise, ridden by Daniel Garcia. The Alberta-bred is a 5-year-old gelding by BD Cruiser, out of Eye Cruise, by Eye Take Time.

Double Cruise has five wins and $66,840 from 17 starts and is a multiple stakes winner, including the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity in 2019 and the Canada Cup Derby the following year.

Completing the field were Hortons Real Deal and Bright Foo Fighter. Rowdysvision was scratched.
