OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 24, 2011—The first substantial rain in months in central Oklahoma brought about the first off-track situation of the American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park on Easter. The track was sloppy but the times were fast with new track records set at two different distances.
Streakin Down posted the top time over two trials for the Bank of America Oklahoma Championship and established a new 440-yard track record in the process. (See related story).
Later on the Easter program, Freighttrain B won an open allowance race and set a new 250-yard track record of :12.849 seconds. Owned by James Sills & Gerald Swindell of Cedar Hill, Texas, Freighttrain B is trained by Willis and was ridden by Brooks.
The 3-year-old Freighttrain B bettered Spit Curl Diva’s 250-yard mark of :12.930 set in 2010. A colt by PYC Paint Your Wagon from the Mr Eye Opener mare Dianetogetcha, Freighttrain B won his seventh career race from 11 starts with five of the scores at Remington Park. He was bred in Texas by Bill Price and Bob Petersen.
Willis and Brooks teamed up for three wins on Easter. In addition to the wins with Streakin Down and Freighttrain B, they also scored with 2-year-old Paint gelding Mambo Quick Step in the first race of the day.
Willis leads the trainer standings with 36 wins while Brooks is second in the jockey standings with 38 wins behind G.R. Carter who leads with 48.
The 2011 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season continues Thursday thru Sunday, April 28-May 1 at Remington Park. The $100,000 Sooner State Stakes for Oklahoma-bred runners, 3-years-old and older, is the featured event of the weekend on Saturday.
